RELEASE DATE: March 28, 2022

WEEK 12: (March 28 – April 3, 2022)

WEEKLY BIBLE READINGS:

I Samuel 16: 12 – 13 & Act 13: 21 – 22 (NIV)

12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”

13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.

21 Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years. 22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’

INTERPRETATION

In the Old Testament, the principle of anointing was revealed in the bestowal of ability through various types, symbols and functions. True anointing is the power and influence of the Holy Spirit saturating and permeating a person.

The anointing of the young shepherd, David is a beautiful episode. He had already given proof of his indomitable courage. They had to fetch him from his sheep, which he was pasturing beside the still waters and on the hillside. God had found him beforehand, Psa 89:20. “He chose David also His servant and took him from the sheepfolds… to feed Jacob His people, and Israel His inheritance,” Psa 78:70-71.

The procession of David’s brethren before Samuel was very impressive. They probably remembered that Saul had been chosen for his splendid physique, and each held himself high and proud. “Surely,” said Jesse to himself, “one of them will captivate the prophet’s eye.” But no! God chooses by the inward temper and disposition. He knew that David was a man after His own heart. The lad had been faithful in a few things and was now to be made ruler over many. The anointing oil reminds us of the anointing for service which was communicated to our Lord at His baptism. In David’s case, it was accompanied by a glorious Pentecost, 1Sam 16:13.

Nobody thought of David, David kept doing what God has called him to do. He was faithful in the little that God had given him. It may be measly old sheep but it was God’s calling. Do not be embarrassed if you are not in the limelight. If people do not know about what you are going through. God does and he is preparing you for a great anointing. Beloved, this is a reminder to remain steadfast and trust God in all we do.

PRAYER

Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael, thank you for your word. Father, we pray you to give us the spirit to remain steadfast in You. Help us to trust the process. Anoint us and guard our souls against evil. May the Holy Spirit rest on us and strengthen us to do your will. This and many more we ask in Jesus name. Amen.

Thank you and God bless. Shalom.
