‭Proverbs 31:30 KJV‬‬

[30] Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

INTERPRETATION

In every generation, God seeks women whose lives reflect His glory and truth. Culture may redefine womanhood through trends, opinions, and shifting values, but God’s standard remains constant. The question is not how popular, admired, or accomplished a woman appears, but how aligned her heart is with God. The Scripture in the Book of Proverbs 31:30 redirects our focus from outward attraction to inward devotion.

Society often celebrates physical appearance, social influence, and material success, yet God looks beyond the surface. According to 1 Samuel 16:7, man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. For this reason, becoming a godly woman begins from within. It is a journey of spiritual maturity, intentional growth, and daily surrender to the will of God.  However, “every wife is a woman, not all women are wives”. It is therefore foundational to pursue being a godly woman before focusing on being a wife (Subsequent articles this month will focus on women as wives).

The foundation of a godly woman is the fear of the Lord. Proverbs 9:10 teaches that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The fear of God is not terror but reverence, honor, and total submission to His authority. It is living with the consciousness that God sees, knows, and weighs every motive. A woman who fears God chooses righteousness even when no one is watching. Like Joseph in Genesis 39:9, she refuses sin because she values her relationship with God above temporary pleasure.

A godly woman understands her identity in Christ. In a world filled with comparison and pressure, she anchors her worth in what God says about her. Psalm 139:14 declares that, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Second Corinthians 5:17 reminds us that, anyone in Christ is a new creation. Her confidence does not come from attention or approval but from belonging to God. This identity frees her from insecurity and competition, allowing her to live with dignity and purpose.

While the Word of God is central in her life, a godly woman embraces prayer as a vital pillar. Psalm 119:105 says, the Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Like Mary who sat at the feet of Jesus in Luke 10:39, she prioritizes spiritual nourishment over distractions. Through prayer, she builds intimacy with God and draws strength in difficult seasons. Hannah in 1 Samuel 1 poured out her soul before the Lord and found both comfort and answer. A praying woman is a strong woman because she depends on divine help rather than human strength.

Her character reflects Christ as diligence and responsibility mark her daily life. She exhibits the fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc.) described in Galatians 5:22 and 23. The virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31 is hardworking, wise, compassionate, and dependable. Colossians 3:23 teaches that, whatever we do should be done heartily as unto the Lord. Whether in academics, career, ministry, marriage, or motherhood, she pursues excellence because she serves God first. She understands that faith without works is dead according to James 2:17. Her productivity becomes a testimony of her devotion.

Becoming a godly woman is not about perfection but about progress. It is a daily surrender to the Holy Spirit, a continual growth in grace, and a consistent pursuit of holiness. As she fears the Lord, embraces her identity in Christ, grows in the Word, lives a life of prayer, displays Christlike character, and walks in diligence, she fulfills the truth of Proverbs 31:30. A woman who fears the Lord shall indeed be praised.

PRAYER

Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that defines true beauty and godliness. Help every woman grow in the fear of the Lord and develop a heart that pleases You. Fill her with Your Spirit, strengthen her character, and guide her steps daily. Let her life reflect Christ and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
