WEEK 24: (June 14 – June 20, 2021)

WEEKLY BIBLE READINGS:

Galatians 6:10

“As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

INTERPRETATION

One of the very core aspect of our calling as Christians is to do good. However, doing good has been sectionalised and restricted; some only do good in church and behave ‘anyhow’ in their day to day life. The world has become a place where men do things for people because of what they will get in return and for their selfish motive. The scriptural reading expounded that we should do good to all men, (including the clergy) regardless of race, gender, background and class. Apostle Paul gave the guidelines to the Galatians on the tenets about living a healthy lifestyle, emphasising the need to help one another. In another letter to Titus, he instructs on being ready to do whatever is good.

Many claim to love Jesus but what they are known for amongst their peers/colleagues is terrible. They find it difficult to help others and in some cases when offering a helping shoulder, it’s rather considered a means to an end and not an end in itself. Doing good is powered by the right character – Christ-like character – not by perfect behavioural display because no one is perfect. It’s not about showmanship but expressing the divine love of God. The world has fallen apart because many have refused to show the approved ideal manner of relational behaviour thereby increasing the darkness and covering God’s passion,  His grace-filled passion, His loving passion. While doing good rescues people from destruction, doing good among neighbours and strangers reveals our priorities and connects our hearts to others as well as provides us with unexplainable joy. Ultimately, an act of good deeds draw gentiles to the light of God in us and bring more men to the kingdom.

The appearance of Christ in the world is an exemplification of the exceeding love of God as grace embodied – our example of doing good. Through Christ many received salvation; through our deeds, many should be led to Christ that they may glorify the Father in heaven.

Like the popular saying, doing good pays. The good that pays is that which is done out of good faith and not the ones with malicious intentions. As believers, we need to let the light of our good works shine before men through every moment of our every day life, taking into cognisance Paul’s admonition of doing good to all men and devoting to doing what is good.

PRAYER

Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael, thank you Lord for your Word, we pray for the willingness to do good to all, father grant it to us. We pray that you empower us to shun every act of irresponsible behaviours that dissuade men from your kingdom. By the power in the blood of Jesus, we pray you to wash us clean, to be able to act accordingly to your will and lead many to your kingdom. Father, we pray you to release the spirit that will help us exhume the love of Christ, give us your Holy Spirit that will inspire us to excellence and live a life of purpose. Glory to your holy name. In Jesus name we have prayed. Amen

Thank you and God bless. Shalom.
