WEEKLY BIBLE READINGS:
Matthew 13: 41 – 43
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
INTERPRETATION
God expects us to live a righteous life. As believers, living a holy and upright life in accordance with God’s standards is what we are created to do. In this perverse world, conforming to the standard and image of God is what many have moved away from and being in right standing with God has been thrown to the wind. Many have forgotten that there’s a reward for being righteous and the ultimate reward is inheriting eternal life.
The scriptural reading highlights what the righteous stand to enjoy using the parable of the good seeds and tares. The righteous is likened to good seeds and good seeds are expected to produce fruits of the spirit. Galatians 5:19 highlighted some of the fruits of the spirit which include: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness and meekness among others. Which of these fruits are you producing?
In addition, the book of Psalm says the righteous shall flourish like a palm tree; that is to say the righteous will not only inherit eternal life but enjoy the good things of this life as well as ‘shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father’. The palm tree is known for long life; this is to say that the righteous will be “long-lived, stately, upright, useful and fruitful”.
As bad as the moral state of man is right now, it is going to get a lot worse in the coming years according to the scripture. It, therefore, behooves us as individuals to take voluntary decisions to pursue the righteous path. Eternal life comes as a result of God’s grace; it’s His gift, unearned and undeserved on our part, freely imparted to us. How then do you access this eternal life? By being righteous. Though the race is not for the swift, the grace of God is sufficient to provide help and support. This is a reminder to amend our ways and strive to live a holy life and be in right standing with God.
PRAYER
Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael, thank you Lord for your Word, for as many that have taken the decision to be in right standing with God, enter their hearts, dwell with them, help and sustain them Lord to be in right standing with you. Make us the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. We pray for your spirit of guidance in pursuit of good, Father release it on us. Cover us with your grace to live a holy life. Give us the spirit to run away from iniquity. That at the end of our sojourn on earth, we shall inherit the kingdom with you. Glory to your holy name. In Jesus Name we have prayed. Amen.
Thank you and God bless. Shalom.
