INTERPRETATION
As we approach the final stretch of the year, it’s important for us as believers to reflect on the call of God to finish strong in every faith process. The way of faith isn’t about how well we start the race; it’s about how we finish it. The Apostle Paul, in his letter to Timothy, said, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). This is the heart of our Christian journey – to finish what we’ve started with excellence, perseverance, and unwavering faith. The end of the year serves as a timely reminder for us to renew our commitment to finishing strong in our faith, no matter the circumstances we’ve faced.
The journey of faith is often compared to a race in Scripture. The writer of Hebrews exhorts us to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2). This passage emphasizes that finishing strong requires more than just starting well – it demands that we finish the course we are on with focus, endurance, and a steadfast gaze upon Jesus. Our Christian walk isn’t merely a sprint; it’s a marathon that requires patience, discipline, and reliance on God.
As the year draws to a close, we may find ourselves reflecting on all that we’ve encountered. Maybe there were challenges, disappointments, or even moments of triumph, but through it all, God has called us to remain faithful to the end. We must resist the temptation to become complacent or discouraged as we approach the finish line. The race is not over until it’s over, and the finish line is as important as the starting line.
Finishing strong in faith is not about achieving perfection but about keeping our trust in God, regardless of the trials we’ve faced. We are reminded in Philippians 1:6 that “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” God is faithful to complete what He has started in us, and this should encourage us as we press forward to the end of the year.
The same strength that empowered these great men of God is available to us through the Holy Spirit. He equips us to endure, persevere, and finish strong in whatever God has called us to do – whether it’s our personal walk of faith, our ministry, or our relationships.
As we near the end of the year, it’s important to recognize that the way we finish this year will impact how we enter the new one. If we approach the end of the year with weariness, discouragement, or a defeated mindset, we will likely carry that same spirit into the next season. However, if we stand strong in faith, trusting in God’s ability to work in and through us, we position ourselves for victory.
PRAYER
Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael.
Dear Father, we ask that you will breathe upon every promise that you have made to us particularly concerning this year, and strengthen our hearts to trust relentlessly in you again. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
