WEEK 6: (February 7 – February 13, 2022)

WEEKLY BIBLE READINGS:

Matthew 25: 31 – 32 (NIV)

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

INTERPRETATION

Since the time of John the Baptist, it has been consistently proclaimed that God’s judgement is imminent on the world; this was even before the arrival of Jesus Christ. Jesus came, he reiterated the message. John in his time encourages people to prepare for God’s judgment by repenting from their sins, being baptized and producing appropriate fruits for repentance.

In the text above, Jesus is describing His return to earth as Judge and King with everyone alive on earth answering to Him as the Judge of all as he sits on His glorious throne with all power and authority to decide the fate of those subject to judgement (all nations). To this end, the day is coming when the Son of Man will return in heavenly glory, to judge the all; to fulfil His promises to Abraham; to set-up Israel at the head of the nations and to establish up His millennial rule on earth.

Many do not believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ; they believe everything ends here on earth. There are several scriptural backings to the judgement day. II Corinthians 5:10 states “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”. This is to establish that judgement is inevitable, even for angels when they sinned (II Peter 2:4 – “For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment”

At His second coming, He will wage war in righteousness against the enemies of God and will tread the winepress of the fierceness of God’s wrath and anger. This second coming when Jesus Christ returns with the church to defeat the antichrist, overthrow evil and then establish His thousand-year reign upon earth. This wonderful second coming is when the Son of man shall come in His glory and all the holy angels with Him and he shall sit upon the throne of His glory.

When Jesus himself will judge everyone just like a shepherd does at the end of the day, where will you belong? Heaven or hell? What are you? Goat or sheep? This is another reminder to repent from evil, produce fruits of the spirit and pursue good at all times.

PRAYER

Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael, thank you for your word. Thank you for the finished work on the Cross; we are the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. We pray that you have mercy on us, keep us in your faith and guard our hearts. Shine your light on our path that we might walk in your grace. Keep us till the end and on the last day, we shall dwell with you. This and many more we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thank you and God bless. Shalom.
