INTERPRETATION
Words have power. In the beginning, God spoke the world into existence (Genesis 1:3). Jesus taught that our words reflect our faith, saying, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34). As believers, we are called to speak words of faith, aligning our declarations with God’s promises rather than our fears or circumstances. Faith is not just believing in our hearts but also expressed through our words. Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” This shows that salvation itself is activated through faith-filled speech.
When we speak by faith, we declare what God has said, even when we do not yet see the evidence. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Speaking by faith means affirming God’s promises as true, even before they manifest in our lives.
Biblical Examples of Speaking by Faith
- Abraham – Calling Things That Are Not as Though They Were
Abraham, the father of faith, was called by God to be the father of many nations, even though he had no children (Genesis 17:4-5). Romans 4:17 states that he believed in “God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.” Abraham did not waver in unbelief but spoke and acted as if God’s promise was already fulfilled.
- David – Declaring Victory Before the Battle
When David faced Goliath, he did not speak fearfully. Instead, he boldly declared his victory before the battle even began: “This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you” (1 Samuel 17: 46). David’s words were an expression of his faith in God’s power, and they paved the way for his triumph.
- Jesus – Speaking to the Storm
In Mark 4:39, Jesus and His disciples were caught in a violent storm. While the disciples panicked, Jesus “rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’” Immediately, the storm ceased. Jesus demonstrated that faith-filled words have authority over circumstances. He later asked the disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:40). This teaches us that speaking by faith is an expectation of those who follow Christ.
Practical Steps to Speak by Faith
- Speak God’s Promises, Not Your Fears
- Align Your Words with Scripture
- Speak in Agreement with God’s Will
- Guard Your Speech
Speaking by faith is a powerful spiritual principle. Like Abraham, David, Jesus, and the woman with the issue of blood, we must boldly declare God’s promises over our lives. Faith-filled words shape our reality, align us with God’s will, and bring His power into our circumstances. Let us speak life, hope, and victory, trusting that God’s Word will never return void (Isaiah 55:11).
PRAYER
Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael.
Dear Father, we ask that you fill our hearts with greater conviction that can resist the trials of life. From the strength of the conviction in our heart, help us to continually speak life into the situations around us in Jesus’ name! Amen!
