WEEKLY BIBLE READINGS:
I Thessalonian 5: 17(NIV)
Pray without ceasing.
Prayer is an act of “consecrated devotedness,” that’s expressed to God, out of an awareness of His sovereign ability to “rectify” all which pertains to our “natural,” and “spiritual” needs.
Prayer is more than words. It’s the “incredible faith” we display, when we invite “the God of the universe,” into “a situation,” involving our lives. Prayer is an “antidote,” when acted upon by faith, it’ll counteract the “poison of doubt” because, through prayer, we have the opportunity to reach our full potential in Christ. This implies a praying habit and relates to our thoughts, affections, and feelings. The reasons we should pray at all always exist, and therefore we should “pray without ceasing.” Prayer foreshadows— danger, and our dangers surround us every moment; a sense of personal weakness and destitution, which are permanent. Is essential to depend on God, which ought to be without intermission. All the reasons why we should pray at all urge us to pray unceasingly.
Let’s look at some instances of effective prayers in the scripture!
Jehoshaphat was the 4th king of the Nation of Judah. Overall, he was a godly king who led the nation of Judah in the ways of God. He was not perfect mind you. There was a particular incident that was recorded in the 2 Chronicles of his failings where he defied God by making an alliance with a wicked country. This sin didn’t go unnoticed. Jehoshaphat was called out on this sin and repented. He turned from the faith he had put in worldly strength and put his full confidence back in God. At some point, Judah was to be invaded but he desperately called on God for help and God answered him. “Then Jehoshaphat was afraid and set his face to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. And Judah assembled to seek help from the LORD; from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.” – 2 Chronicles 20:3-4
In the same vein, “Tabitha, get up.” The Apostle Peter spoke these words over the lifeless body of a woman who fell ill and died in the town of Lydda. Tabitha, called Dorcas in Greek, was known for her good works and acts of charity. She was a generous person who sewed for others and gave to the needy. The prayer of Apostle Peter restored her back to life. Are you still doubting the effectiveness of prayers?
In addition, we may all remember the Shunammite woman as the one who offered a room in her home to the prophet Elisha. Her story, found in 2 Kings 4 and 8, is a beautiful example of the Christ-like character qualities we can all cultivate. Because of her generosity, she experienced the reward of a prophet.
Beloved, where do you turn to in times of trouble? Where do you run when you feel overwhelmed or inadequate? What do you do when the turbulence of life comes? You only need to set your face to seek the Lord. He is more than able to deliver us. This is another reminder to seek the Lord at all times, not only during times of trouble.
PRAYER
Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael, Our Father and Our Lord, thank you for your Word. We pray for your mercy, have mercy on us. May the spirit to pray without ceasing rest on us. Grant us the grace to understand the effectual powers in prayers. Help us to trust in your powers. And may the devil never steal our hearts as we continue to experience the greatness in constant fellowship with you. This and many more we ask for through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Thank you and God bless. Shalom.
