Psalm 36:7 (NKJV)

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.

INTERPRETATION

In Psalms 36:7, David’s words remind us that the love of God transcends theological idea, it is a refuge, a shelter, a safe place where weary hearts can rest. Even in uncertainties, God’s steadfast love remains an anchor for our souls. David specifically describes God’s love as precious and valuable. Something precious is treasured, protected, and held close. God’s love toward us is not distant or conditional. It is personal, enduring, and active. The Lord invites us to take shelter “under the shadow of His wings,”. This is best understood with an imagery of the tenderness of a mother bird drawing her young close during danger. It is a picture of protection that is firm and strong yet gentle and intimate.

In life almost everyone at certain points will come to know what it feels like to run out of strength. Life’s pressures, whether relational, financial, emotional, or spiritual, can press us into corners where fear begins to whisper to our hearts and hope begins to fade. Nevertheless, the psalmist points us to a deeper truth, that our safety is not found in our circumstances but in God’s character. His love is not shaken by our storms. As Scripture reminds us, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10).

God’s love is also a refuge for the brokenhearted. When we feel unseen or unheard, His compassion reaches deeper than any human comfort. The Lord is near to those who call upon Him (Psalm 145:18), and He binds up the wounds of the hurting (Psalm 147:3). No pain is too big for His mercy, and no failure is beyond the reach of His grace.

What makes God’s love such a powerful refuge is that it does not depend on our performance. Romans 5:8 tells us that “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Before we ever looked for Him, He was already pursuing us. Before we ever called out, He had already prepared a place of shelter.

To take refuge in God’s love is to lean fully into who He is, to trust His heart even when we cannot trace His hand. It means allowing His truth to silence the lies of fear, letting His promises outweigh our anxieties, and choosing His peace over our panic. Jesus invites us, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Rest is found in surrendering to the One who holds it, not in escaping.

Today, whatever you are carrying, let Psalm 36:7 remind you that you have a refuge. God’s love is wide enough to cover you, strong enough to protect you, and tender enough to heal you. Run to Him. Rest in Him. His wings are open, and His heart is for you.

PRAYER

Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael.

Dear Father, thank You for Your unfailing love that shelters and strengthens us. Teach us to rest under the shadow of Your wings and trust Your heart in every season. Calm our fears, heal our wounds, and draw us deeper into Your peace. Be our refuge today and always. Amen in Jesus name.
