Luke 15:8-10
[8]Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
[9]And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
[10]Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
INTERPRETATION
This parable, though brief, carries profound implications for how we view our investments in God’s kingdom. The woman’s diligent search for her lost coin illustrates the immense value God places on every single soul and, by extension, every effort and resource devoted to His work. In the parable, the woman’s ten coins represent her total wealth. Losing one coin, which might seem insignificant compared to the nine remaining, prompts an exhaustive search. This illustrates that every single investment—whether it be time, effort, or human resource—is crucial in God’s eyes. Just as the loss of one coin diminishes the total value, neglecting any aspect of our contributions to the kingdom can weaken the overall strength of the church.
Time is one of the most valuable resources we can offer to God’s kingdom. Ephesians 5:15-16 urges us to “be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” Every moment spent in prayer, service, or fellowship is an investment that God cherishes. Just as the woman in the parable did not rest until she found her lost coin, we should be diligent in using our time wisely for God’s purposes.
Our efforts, no matter how small they may seem, are significant in the eyes of God. Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Every act of service, every prayer, and every outreach effort is a valuable contribution to the kingdom. Like the woman who meticulously searched for her coin, we must be persistent and wholehearted in our efforts.
The church is described as the body of Christ in 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, where each member has a unique and vital role. Just as the loss of one coin affects the woman’s total wealth, the absence or neglect of any member’s contribution can impact the church’s overall health and effectiveness. Verses 25-26 emphasize that “there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” Valuing each person’s gifts and contributions is essential for the sustenance of the church’s corporate strength.
The parable underscores the importance of valuing every kingdom asset. The woman’s joy upon finding her lost coin mirrors the joy in heaven over one sinner who repents. This joy is not just about the individual but about the collective strength and unity of the church. When we value and nurture every investment—time, effort, and human resource—we contribute to the church’s overall health and mission.
PRAYER
Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael.
Our Dear Father, we ask that you help our hearts to value every factor that is precious to you. Teach us to count precious the things that are of high esteem to you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
