INTERPRETATION
In the book of Proverbs, Solomon says “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” This exemplifies the importance of wisdom in human life!
What then is wisdom? It is the power of right judgment – the ability to know what action pleases God and men in any situation. It is saying and doing the right thing every time. It is recognizing truth and error, no matter the efforts made to confuse or disguise them. Acquiring God’s wisdom should be the pursuit of all men, but it is sought and obtained by only a few. There are some things that money literally cannot buy; godly wisdom and its benefits are among these.
Looking at the story of Solomon, he was blessed when God asked him to make a request; rather than asking for wealth or power, Solomon asked for wisdom (1 Kings 3:5–12). Not only was he gifted with brilliance, but Solomon also found worldly success and prosperity, in no small part due to that wisdom (1 Kings 3:13–14).
On the other hand, Jesus asks in Luke 9:25: “For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?” A child of God in possession of God’s Word may have only a modest income or even no income, but he is wealthier than all the billionaires combined who lack God’s Word.
Therefore, Solomon, possessing the greatest combination of wealth, wisdom, and power ever – experimented with more things than you can even imagine. What was his conclusion? Fear God and keep his commandments – true wisdom (Eccl 12:13-14)!
Beloved, wisdom is better than rubies, and there is nothing else in life even worth comparing to it. Seek wisdom today!
PRAYER
Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael, Our Father and Our Lord, thank you for your Word. Forgive us our sins, we seek your wisdom, give us your wisdom. Give us the spirit of understanding. Let your wisdom that gives light rest on us; help us to fear you and keep your commandments. Do not allow us to pursue vain things and materialism; guide us to focus on the things that matter and keep us till the end. This and many more we ask for through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Thank you and God bless. Shalom.
