INTERPRETATION

The Fatherhood of God is a subject that is of utmost relevance to the Christian faith. There’s no Christianity outside of the reality and experience of the Fatherhood of God. There are many realities available in God and many standpoints from which we can relate to God. Some only regard God as their Maker and that’s just a side of the person of God. Some regard God as a Deity to be worshipped and that’s also one of the aspects of God’s person. However, the Christian faith is largely hinged on the sacrificial work of Christ at Calvary. There’s nothing we can do concerning the Christian faith without regarding the provisions of the Cross of Christ. Yet, there would have been no Cross if the Father had decided not to give us His Son. The giving of Jesus, the Son of God as the sacrificial offering for the atonement of the sin of the entire human race was out of God’s benevolence as Father. (John 3:16)

One reason this topic is a very crucial one is that many stay with the revelation of the essence and power in the name of Jesus in a way that makes them lose touch with the reason why we were given access to the name in the first place. In John 14:6, Jesus reveals that there’s no way to access the Father apart from Him (Jesus). This establishes the reason we pray in the name of Jesus. When we pray, we understand that the answers we seek are with our Father. Therefore there’s a way that we ought to approach God not only as our Maker, Lord, Deity, etc. While all of these realities are valid expressions of the person of God, the only way to profit much from our experiences in prayer whether we are asking God for things or we are simply spending time fellowshipping with God is to never forget that God is our Father.

When Christ taught His disciples how to pray, He began by acknowledging God as Father. After we have mastered how to maximize the potency of the name of Jesus when praying particularly with regard to prayers bordering on matters of spiritual warfare, we must never come to a point where we lose sight of the fact that we have a direct father-to-son relationship with God. In fact, this was the reason Jesus went to the Cross. It was to reconcile us back to our Father to the end that we who were once far away from God can now boast of spiritual legal rights to call God Abba! What a privilege!

It is this understanding that fuels our consciousness of God’s readiness to answer us every time we pray (1 John 5:14). The consciousness that God is now our Father on the basis of Christ’s death on the Cross. Now we are reconciled back to God our Father. Now we can boldly call Him Abba! God is not ashamed to relate with us as His sons. Christ has taken our shame upon Himself when He hung on the Cross bearing our sins upon Himself. Behold what measure of joy we have in prayers knowing that the owner of the heavens and the earth is our Father! If our earthly fathers in their capacity can strive to satisfy our needs, we are assured that God being much more loving will see to it that all our needs according to His Will are met.

PRAYER

Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael.

Our Father and our God, we declare our love for you. Thank you for expressing your love to us in that you have drawn us to you as dear sons. Help our hearts to remain aflame with the burning consciousness that you are our Father. In Jesus’ name! Amen!
