10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
INTERPRETATION
An overflow is an abundance. It can be described as filling a bottle with liquid until there’s a spillover. It is God’s desire to bless everyone with the abundant blessing and this can be likened to the ‘signature of God’. Many have no idea how much God wants to bless us. Some seem to have a limited and narrow perspective to the extent He’s willing to bless us. They live as if there are limits to what is possible. The scripture says that “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” This verse attests to the extent to which God is able and willing to bless us. Jesus also said that He came that we might have life and have it “abundantly’ which can be translated to having a life “till it overflows”.
As believers, it is one thing to be blessed and a different thing to experience overflowing blessings. God wants you to have the overflowing blessings but what are your expectations? What do you really believe about this truth? Have you placed limits on what God can do? Are you dominated by doubt or stopped by fear? This should never be the case.; you do not have to wonder what God would say about these matters, His word gives us the specific answers. There are secrets to experiencing God’s overflow blessing and we will be examining one this week. One of such is regular tithing.
The book of Malachi details what paying tithe is all about and the blessings attached to it. Many today have neglected this principle thinking they are wise not knowing that they are doing more harm than good to themselves. The tithe was an obligatory offering from the law of Moses requiring 10 percent of an Israelite’s first fruits. Because God provided the harvest, this first part was returned to Him. It was a reminder to Israel that all things we have are His. It was a show of thankfulness for His provision. The same still applies to this day, we should show gratitude to God by paying our tithe and in return, he will open the floodgates of heaven and pour out his blessings as promised. In as much as Abraham paid tithe, despite the coming of Jesus Christ, we are compelled to follow this precept that we might experience God’s blessings. As a salary earner, you should pay your tithe monthly, as a business person, pay the tithe of the profit you make.
Finally, tithing must be done with the knowledge and cheerfully; anything aside this makes getting the reward difficult. May God help us all.
PRAYER
Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael, thank you for your word, thank you for your blessings. Heavenly and most Gracious Father, we come before you in prayer, we request your overflowing blessing upon our lives, may we experience this. We pray for your spirit that will help us pay our tithes accordingly, release this unto us. Bless us with love, peace, joy and happiness. Bless us with your spiritual and financial blessing that we can be a blessing unto others. This and many more we ask for in Jesus name. Amen.
Thank you and God bless. Shalom.
